From Another Place

Words and Music by Margie Adam

I think it’s well worth noting
When people shoot themselves
They put a pistol to their heads
Not a pistol to their hearts
That people blow their brains out
Makes sense I must confide
It’s my mind that’s out to get me
It’s my heart that’s on my side.

My mind does tend to wander
To seek the darkened room
A favorite pastime seems to be
The nurturing of gloom
Let’s fondle each old failure
Let’s ponder loves that died
It’s my mind that’s out to get me
It’s my heart that’s on my side.

You know I’ve just been thinking
About my state of mind
Incessant buzz of judgment
Just dogs me all the time
And now I see more clearly
I cannot win this game
As long as I am in the ring
I’ll lose and lose again

But…
I think I’ve found the answer
I think I’ve found the clue
My mind is not so tightly wrapped
Sweet reason can’t shine through
I’ll liberate the future
By putting past aside
It’s my mind that’s out to get me
It’s my heart that’s on my
mind that’s out to get me
It’s my heart that’s on my side
